TSGC COMMITTEES
TSGC has appointed committee chairs. Chairs are full members of TSGC. Volunteer opportunities are available! Please contact the committee chair and let them know you are interested in becoming involved.
The TSGC Membership Committee is responsible for recruiting and maintaining membership and communicating relevant issues between the organization's Board and it's members. The committee maintains internal Texas job posting and current contact information on members and individuals moving into and out of the state. CURRENT ACTIVITIES In 2008 the Membership Committee's major project is the design and development of the new TSGC website. This will be an ongoing project as the website is continuously maintained and updated to provide members with an accurate resource for news and events in Texas. The TSGC Professional Issues Committee (PIC) is responsible for issues pertaining to the profession of Genetic Counseling. In 2008, the PIC has put together the First Annual Educational Meeting, in conjunction with the Texas Genetic Society (TSG)meeting, with reduced registration for TGS meeting for TSGC members and opportunities for CEU credits. The TSGC Genetic Services Committee is responsible for issues pertaining to the provision of genetic services within the state of Texas. In 2007 the committee served as the Nominating Committee for the Board of Director elections. In 2008 the Genetic Services Committee will be conducting a needs assessment for the state. The TSGC Legislative Affairs Committee is responsible for keeping abreast of legislative issues and bills that may impact the provision of genetic services and/or the profession of genetic counseling within the State of Texas. This committee strives to provide a voice for TSGC during legislative sessions, acts as a conduit for support from other healthcare providers on actions and bills, working closely with the Ad-hoc Committee on Licensure. The TSGC Ad-hoc Committee on Licensure is responsible for drafting a suitable licensure bill. The committee chairs facilitate communication between Texas Medical Association (TMA) and other interested parties and coordinates efforts of TSGC surrounding lobbying activities. In 2008, The Ad-hoc Committee on Licensure has the opportunity to evaluate/revise current draft legislation using tools NSGC has provided and information gained from other organizations and states. Goals this year include meeting with and speaking to executives from other professions licensed under the Texas Medical Board for additional input, developing a strategy to increase awareness of the need for licensure of genetic counselors, visiting with legislators and further work on e-mail, fax and letter writing campaigns.
