Mission and Vision

The mission of the TSGC is to advocate for the genetic counseling profession and genetic counseling services in Texas by expanding awareness of the profession, promoting genetic education, increasing patient access to genetic services, and providing genetic resources.

The vision of the TSGC is to be the leading advocate for the genetic counseling profession, genetic services and genetic education for the state of Texas.

TSGC will be a leading resource for genetic healthcare in Texas.

• TSGC will identify and form strategic partnerships with other organizations that impact genetic service delivery.

• TSGC will work with NSGC to establish relationships with 3rd party payors to provide input and guidance regarding coverage of genetic services.

• TSGC will actively participate in the legislative process that impacts genetic services in Texas.

TSGC will achieve licensure of genetic counselors in Texas.

• TSGC will have a companion bill filed at a point to achieve an early filing number.

• TSGC will identify and meet with representatives to champion our cause.

• TSGC will have a bill to the floor and achieve licensure in 2011.

• TSGC will have the rules and regulations written and accept applications by 2013.

TSGC will increase awareness among consumers of genetic counselors and genetic counseling.

• TSGC will establish a brand for TSGC by utilizing a unifying slogan and promoting the website.

• TSGC will promote genetics education by creating educational tools.

• TSGC will increase utilization of the speakers bureau by boosting member participation, increasing the repository of talks, and marketing to consumers.

TSGC will increase patient access to genetic counseling services across Texas.

• TSGC will explore alternative genetic counseling modes by educating members and other healthcare providers.

• TSGC will work with NSGC to establish credentialing for genetic counselors and direct billing for genetic counseling services.
