ABOUT US
The Texas Society of Genetic Counselors (TSGC) was established and incorporated in 2006. The roots of our current professional society were planted as the Texas Genetic Counselor Licensure Working Group (TGCLWG), an ad-hoc committee founded in 2002 for the pursuit of State Licensure in Texas. Chaired from 2002-2004 by Aimee Williams, MS, CGC, the original working group consisted of 13 dedicated members: M. Casal, K. Copeland, K. Courtney, P. Furman, K. Heller, N. Lambert, S. Noblin, K. Plunkett, L. Robinson, J. Rollins, P. Sculley, P. Ward and C. Wicklund. In a few short years, it became evident to members of the TGCLWG that development of a professional organization would be a useful resource and could serve to unify the profession and provide support, networking and educational opportunities for genetic counselors within the State of Texas. The TSGC has grown to to almost 100 members! In 2007, the Texas Society of Genetic Counselors was approved by the NSGC as a State Chapter, a merited recognition that our mutual purposes and objective are complementary and consistent. Current organizational activities for 2008 include reviewing bylaws and articles of incorporation, holding our first annual education conference, and redesigning our website.
